Pantech With 1.5 GHz Dual Core Phone This Summer?

Do Jin Myeong, President of Qualcomm CDMA Technology, announced yesterday in a press conference that the company is working with Pantech to include its MSM8660 chipset, also in EVO 3D, in the next generation of Pantech Vega, scheduled to launch this May. What is interesting about this phone is that the chipset is overclocked to 1.5 GHz, instead of 1.2 GHz as it is in EVO 3D. This will make Vega the fastest dual-core smartphone out there, although there are faster chipsets on the horizon. In the conference, Do also said that the company is planning to launch a 2.5 GHz SoC by the first half of 2012, about two years after Sanjay Jha promised a 2GHz Droid, and that Qualcomm is looking to release a 3G modem-excluded version of its SoC for tablets to combat the rush of Tegra 2 tablets, such as Motorola Xoom. Certainly, Qualcomm has built a huge goal for itself after having a record quarter for revenue.
Want more about MSM8660? Anandtech did a very good job benchmarking the chipset:
